ACID has evolved over the last decade into a hard-hitting trade organisation representing 1000+ companies from 25 different industry sectors. ACID Lobby is constantly working on behalf of designers to ensure that adequate laws are in place to protect their designs. This involves liaising with other organisations, approaching parliamentarians and ensuring the support of All Party Parliamentary Groups who can put the case to Government. Amongst many other initiatives we currently have two number 10 petitions for;
Changes to copyright and unregistered design right infringement damages to create a greater deterrent against intellectual property theft; (at the moment there is no deterrent in the level of damages awarded for IP theft. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/IPDamages/
Criminal sanctions for design right infringement; (if your wallet is stolen, it is a crime and you can involve the police, if your new designs are stolen you can only take civil action) http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/DesignRight/
